Kindle or Paperback? Fad or the next must have?

We are all prone to them for they lure us in with all the wonderful advertising and promotional paraphernalia, that succeed in persuading us that not only is it the next best thing to sliced bread, but a must have gadget.
So I have been drawn into looking at the Kindle book available from Amazon, against my will I might add. As a lover of books I was certainly against the idea. Okay, I’ll be honest I was so set against them, the very thought gave me a shiver of distaste right down my spine.
I’m not fully won over and therefore not rushing out to buy one, however I do see some benefits. Going on holiday and being able to take innumerable reading matter, over and beyond what one could pack in a suitcase without weight penalties. Reading in bed or on the beach would certainly be easier and therefore a plus and certainly on public transport it would be of benefit.
On the other hand a paper book, crisp and clean, where the words enveloped within its jacket can be felt and almost smelt in the anticipation of opening to read its hidden contents. Okay, that is romanticising them a tad, for on the other hand, they then clutter up the place, gather dust and probably half don’t even get a second reading, because they can’t be found. I have to read a book at least twice! Otherwise why buy for you would be better off going to your local library.
I suppose the most important thing in relation to this, either or question, is that once you have the Amazon Kindle, you still have the choice as to whether to buy it in paper format or download onto the Kindle. I’ve kind of persuaded myself now, so I’ve put one on my wish list as very shortly I have a birthday coming up.
Further persuasion came from the reviews that people had left on Amazon as to the merits of the Kindle and as these reviews come from those who have purchased then I’d recommend that you too should that is if you are considering the purchase. Click the Amazon Kindle link and you’ll be able to get all the details.

Reading is good for mind, body and soul, whether, magazine, newspaper, literature, whatever, so I suppose how you read it is less important than the fact that you do read whatever you are reading, in whatever your chosen preference may be.
